Pigging station commissioned at the Besançon terminal
December 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of commissioning the Quingey-Gennes section of the PL1 pipeline, which linked Fos to Gennes in December 2014.This project involved the laying of one kilometre of a 34 inch pipeline and the installation of a high quality pigging station at its end. At the time, it mobilised many SPSE departments. Their involvement and determination made the project a great success. Since its commissioning, SPSE has been operating one of the longest pipelines in Europe without an intermediate station, with a length of 478 km.Congratulations to all those who have contributed to the success of this project. In 10 years, 134 pigs have been delivered to the pigging station at the Besançon terminal, and the 1 km section has carried 800 batches and more than 27 million tonnes of crude oil.To put that into perspective, 27 million tonnes of crude represents the energy equivalent needed to supply 1 million French homes without interruption for 70 years.
